What can you tell us about COVID-19 and its impact on the NHS?

You may well be asked about COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the NHS (immediately and in the long term), so make sure you are prepared to answer.

Some things to think about are:

  • The long term effects of covid-19 on physical and mental health
  • The effect of the pandemic on A&E services
  • The impact on care for people with long term/chronic conditions- many people have been hesitant about attending their GP or not reporting any problems due to the fear of catching COVID-19 or overburdening the NHS.
  • The impact of having to cancel routine appointments for the future.
  • The impacts of lockdown on future care – there will be a huge back-log of patients awaiting to be seen due to cancelled appointments. There may also be an increase in presentation at GP’s, with patients struggling with their mental health
